Each person will take a turn as the word giver, in order around the table. The word giver for that turn selects a word they think no one else will know. (They can either use the words preselected on slips or look in the Dictionary.)
The word giver will ask the rest of the players if anyone knows the word, and if anyone does, will find another word that no one knows. (The players are on their honor to admit if they know the meaning of the word.)
The word giver will ask the rest of the players if anyone knows the word, and if anyone does, will find another word that no one knows. (The players are on their honor to admit if they know the meaning of the word.)
1. The word giver writes down the word on one slip and writes the true definition for it. The word giver says the word and spells it for the other players.
2. The players put it down on their definition slip, and then secretly write a definition for the word that they hope will fool the others. The players hand their slips in, folded, to the word giver.
3. The word giver reads through all the definitions to make sure they will be able to read them aloud smoothly and without laughing. The word giver puts all the definitions, including the true one, in random order and then numbers them. The word giver then reads each number and definition out loud The players vote on which answer to be the correct one.
Players earn a point if they 1) guess the true definition, and 2) points for each other player they fool with their made up definition. (The word giver cannot earn any points when it is their turn as word giver.) At the end of the game, the highest score wins.
Play can go on for the number of turns predetermined* at the beginning of the game, but should allow for each person to be the word giver an equal number of times. (* a good rule is the more the number the players, the fewer the number of turns)
